Thanksgiving, with a side of escapism. What to buy, bring or make-ahead, plus: three easy desserts, and 8 after-dinner games to get the good times rolling.
Smart!! Mail ordering/shipping nuts and wine! 🙌🏼 and same, no matter where we spend Thanksgiving I always snip all the herbs from my garden and wrap them up in neat bundles with twine before we leave--a perfect hostess gift whether you are helping to cook or not!! I hope your holiday is great!
Love all these ideas! I usually bring my own chef’s knife like you suggested; however, a few times I’ve traveled all carryon so I couldn’t. Most of the time, knives in Airbnbs are dull so I’ve learned to hone them using the bottom of a ceramic cup. This doesn’t make them super sharp but it makes them more usable.
Wow, Patty, what a cool tip. I've never thought of this! Yes bringing knives is only possible if you're driving or checking bags and even then it's a bit suspect. I should've added to the list is a nice sharp peeler or two. They are inexpensive and small enough to pack and make quick big jobs like peeling potatoes when you have a couple of helpers!
Isn't it so fun when you see your childhood plates and someone's photo or even a rented cabin? This has happened to me a number of times and the memories come flooding back. So special.
I ordered 1 large gift basket of mixed nuts from Nuts.com sent. I ordered a mixed case, red and white wine from Invino.com sent. I have a garden of spices, the day we leave, I am cutting 4 sprigs of Rosemary, Thyme, Mint Sage, Parsley and more, that should suffice. I am NOT cooking.
I am keeping this post, though, I have a feeling it will be useful next year. But! In two years, we are having our Holiday in Negril Jamaica!
I love it! Then you are in luck--despite living in the Hudson Valley, I love exploring the many cabins, hotels, resorts and charming rentals in this area and I've been working on the list for all of you ❤️

Random but - I grew up with those plates! Our meals never looked this pretty, but these photos made me nostalgic in the best way ☺️

Very interesting ideas! And I love all the photos, they are so warm ❤️
This would be a dream: festive time spent with friends in a cabin! And with this level of organisation, I do want to be your friend!
May I ask what camera and lens you used to take the third photo (the one with all the food)? The scene looks very cozy
