Thanks for these glimpses into your family life. Or silly Christmas TV ritual is to watch ALL the Harry Potter movies together. Also: these scones look so beautiful and festive. Cheers!

I love this tradition! We are almost to the ages where we would all enjoy the same movies--and we are started series like Star Wars, and Indiana Jones. I can't wait for Bond. Cheers, Domenica! xx

I made fresh cranberry bread over the Thanksgiving holidays and my little processor did a poor job of chopping them. When I try to do it by hand, they roll all over the counter. Whats the trick? At what stage do you hold the dough in the refrigerator? Ready to bake? I would love that as I am a slow starter in the morning.

I raised my kids without a tv for the most part. As they got older we all enjoyed watching our local sports teams so we watched those and special events

Like moon shots, etc! One is a librarian who loves books- the boys now men really don't love reading! 🤷‍♀️

And I agree, readers will read no matter what. My boys will read (and my husband used to read quite a bit when he had more time--it's amazing to me that he mostly reads in English now, which is actually his fourth language!) but my son would way rather be playing sports and moving his legs (biking, soccer, running--whatever!)

I love cranberry bread! I have a recipe called Cranberry Snacking Loaves (I always make two loaves) that I make on repeat starting this week. I agree, hand-chopping cranberries is too time consuming and clumsy. I love my little mini chopper that attaches to my immersion blender. In these scones though, the paddle attachment will crush the cranberries just enough that you don't really need to chop them.

Another heartfelt article...Brings tears to my eyes thinking of my mom and the hundreds of cookies she would make each December. She's been gone seven years and I miss her so much at Christmastime. I know I've said it before, but your parents really are dears and I love hearing about them. They are your greatest gift in life, just as you will be to your children. Say hi to them for me and remember to hug them as much as you can!

PS: Love the TV story! I was the same with Nintendo back in the day and I now have a world champion game player son (who happens to be an EP cardiologist in his spare time!)

Merry Christmas to all!

I am deeply, deeply soaking in my parents now and not taking a single minute for granted. While my sweet dad plays the piano in my living room and my wonderful mom is sitting right next to me, I close my eyes and just say thank you. These moments are a gift and thank you for this reminder.

And oh yes, that's right Nintendo! We were certainly not the last family to get one in the 90s, but definitely not the first ones either. I told my kids I am glad my parents didn't get us one until we were about 12 or so, which means it wasn't a part of our way of life. When it did arrive in our house, we played it obsessively for a few weeks, then only on occasion after that (and probably not at all by about age 14). Kids these days have them/start gaming so young it seems and it becomes so core to who they are; I'm way not ready to go there yet in this house (it will remain on my son's wish list only--for now!).

Thank you for being here and reading!! Thinking of you as I pull a 6 prized pieces of homemade apple strudel out of the freezer for tomorrow morning (for my parent's visit).

Sarah, I have your cookbooks. Is this recipe in any of them? I checked Everyday is Saturday and the Newlywed book, no scones. Help!

Thank you for another beautiful heartfelt post. Now I have a little craving for proper scones like yours, and I’m thinking about creating a cozy family ritual of scones and tea on a Sunday morning. We just launched a new ritual, too. The very first tv dinner with Livia, watching Coco together. She loved the exceptionality of eating in front of the TV (mum, really?!) and compared it to our summer picnic dinners on our tiny balcony. We too have a sofa for two where we pile up together with one of our two dogs (the other one, a huge maremmana, lies at our feet!)

Sounds like a wonderful holiday!

The scones look delicious.
