Great granola! We're in the midst of a Nor'easter here in New Hampshire and making granola seemed like a good choice since we can't go anywhere. I made it for lunch and served it with plain yogurt. Didn't have any cherries so added dried cranberries; no millet so tossed in hemp hearts. It's delicious and a keeper recipe for sure. I don't have sweet tooth at all and might cut out the brown sugar next time, as the maple syrup may make it sweet enough for us. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

I absolutely love this report! Thank you for taking the time to write in. I frequently cut all or most sugar from recipes, especially when maple syrup can do the trick on its own. Good luck with the Nor’Easter and I hope you stay safe.

This is beautiful, Sarah. I too know the window of little feet and snuggles is closing soon, and have been feeling it so hard. I look forward to trying this recipe. I love making granola with the boys. I call it a “kitchen sink” meal. Everyone can add a little bit of what they love and then serve it over some yogurt with berries. I love making mine with olive oil. I just love the flavor it adds.

Granola is a perfect thing to make with the kids!! Everyone can add something. And I agree with you on olive oil in granola--I really love the flavor it gives granola (and certain cookies and other baked goods!). Thinking of you. We spent the last day of spring break (today!) baking cookies allll day. So grateful to have my babies near this week.

I have to go shopping for these items. My fennel seed is way expired, sadly. I want to make this a pumpkin granola, how would I do this? I guess I will have to order Hot Sheet. I have your Newlywed Book, finally. Great stuff in there, you don't have to be a newlywed, though. I guess I will have to get going into a Spice Store very soon. We have a great one in DC. Love your essay!

I'm so glad you have Newlywed now!! I hope it serves you well. I agree it's absolutely not just for newlyweds. I cook from it for my family multiple times a week, and my parents (empty nesters!) use it all the time for the two of them! As for the fennel--fennel seed is one that doesn't expire or get that old dusty spices smell very quickly (unlike many spices that need renewed every 6 months). For the pumpkin, you could try adding pumpkin seeds. And you could blend a little bit of olive oil and pumpkin puree to replace the coconut oil. See what that does! (But watch the temp and stay close, you don't want the olive oil to smoke).

I love this description!! Yes, I think you’re right! 🤍 fennel was not an easy sell for me years ago but once I turned, I turned hard for it.

Luckily, I have been in love with fennel for many years. They impart a wonderful aroma and flavor to Indian curries, which is where I use them mostly.
