Hello!
It’s weekend time, and I’m pretty excited about a sweet batch of recipes I’ll be sharing with you over the next two weeks, leading up to Memorial Day weekend, the big moment—the big cheese of summer entertaining. (How did we get here so quickly?!)
First, though, I wanted to say that things have changed quite a bit at Substack since I first started writing here three years ago. There are more and more voices, lovely writing, and recipes vying for your attention and mine. So, thank you always for being here and supporting my work. Especially to my oldest and founding member-subscribers (you know who you are), I’m so profoundly grateful. I hope you find it brightens and inspires your week and your life around the table.
I’ve been busy birthing something deeply meaningful that’s taking a lot of my energy, so I’m going to keep today’s chit-chat short and sweet, which is apropos for the mood of my new flawless Soft + Chewy Peanut Butter Cookie, deep in peanut butter flavor, low on flour (use G.F. if you prefer), and dipped in rich chocolate. It’s quick to make and perfect for packing for picnics and parties (or freezing a secret stash for your 2 o’clock treat).
Stay tuned over the next two weeks for three more foolproof, make-ahead-friendly cookies that have won big fans around here. This collection of cookies will culminate in a community LIVE COOKIE MAKING CLASS on May 19, and you’re invited!
WHAT’S UP WITH THESE COOKING CLASSES? This is the second of a series of live classes from my kitchen to yours. Each covers a different, timely topic (upcoming: Summer Salads + Meal Prep, and Classic Hungarian Cooking). My hope is that they deepen our connection within our community here, and that I can offer you more tips, trips, and visual instruction than is possible on the written page. Also, they are fun!
This class is a bargain (only $20—let’s fill the room!)—and a perfect low-lift gift for moms. I hope you’ll join in. All you need to do in advance is shop the ingredients and show up with your crew to mix, roll, and freeze (or bake) to get ahead for the big weekend. The recipes will all be accessible here, soon.
Finally, I leave you with two Mother’s Day Posts that I hope to help you honor the mothers in your life and YOU (if you are one or dream to be one someday) this Sunday. The first is an essay I wrote a couple of years ago on Mother’s Day that makes me feel proud—both my kids and me—for how we’re growing. It hits that tender spot to remind us that even if this weekend isn’t what you expect, it can still be just right. In case you missed it, the other is my GIFT GUIDE, made up of a few sturdy, gorgeous things most of the Mamas I know would love to have, even if it doesn’t arrive right on time.
Wishing you a weekend saturated with love.
xx
Sarah
