MOTHER'S DAY GIFT GUIDE
Delicious, delightful and useful gifts for the ladies you love (the self-care edit).
Hello!
It’s nearly May Day, a season of flowers and celebrations, notably—Mother’s Day. If you’re here, I’m guessing you are a mother, have a mother, or love a mother and want her to feel like a million dollars on the one day a year that’s all about her.
This short and sweet gift round-up features my favorite things—things I would want all the mothers in my life to have. Many of these are inspired by the Cote D’Azur and my fantasy for the perfect Mother’s Day: spent in coastal France (or Italy!), wearing French stripes, and falling asleep with soft skin and slipper-covered feet in a seaside retreat filled with flowers. Cliche? You bet. I’m ok with that.
Most of these brands and books are female-founded or authored, and several (scroll down) have a give-back that helps women and children get access to the healthcare or food they need to thrive.
Now to my Gift Guide.
xo,
Sarah
NOW’S YOUR CHANCE: In honor of mother’s day, I’m offering a 20% off annual discount for any readers (mother’s or otherwise) who want to treat themselves or someone they love to an all-access subscription.
MY FAVORITE THINGS:
Every mother I know struggles to care for herself as well as she cares for her friends, her kids, or her partner. These ten treat-yourself style slippers, creams, sleep masks, and French stripes have all come into my life in the last 12 months, and with them, a level of self-care I haven’t experienced since my singleton days. These Intie Earth Cozy Alpaca Slippers arrived at Christmas, and they won’t be coming off anytime soon. Slip into these pillows for your feet in all seasons for a taste of pure bliss. I’ve been pairing the Aesop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Toner and Aesop Perfect Facial Hydrating Cream for the last two weeks, and my skin is thanking me. The special mama in your life with thank you, too.
My new flawless combo for a good night's sleep includes this Dore and Rose Deep Sleep Mask paired with Dore and Rose 2x Skin Recovering Pillowcase (what took me so long?!). For a luxe-feeling lunch, I keep a small bottle of Brightland Co. Ardor Olive Oil (for heat) or Castelvetrano (fruity) for drizzling over soups, salads, and salty-sesame toast. My morning coffee isn’t complete without a Lost Quarry Bow Mug, in black (find its sister here) or her newest style, Lost Quarry Textured Mug—a tactile morning treat. For Mother’s Day brunching or poolside lounging, I reach for this H&M Oversized Linen Shirt or the trim Eleven Six Isla Striped Cardi. Finally, this simple Arber Repotting Mat is saving my countertops and floors (and back!) this spring, perfect for the gardener in your life.
BOOKS SHE’LL LOVE:
I’ve already mentioned here that this spring is full of tempting books. Six, in particular, speak to mothers whose love language is anything food, flower, or interiors-related. Francophiles will adore the stunning yet surprisingly practical Le Sud, which will put approachable, provencal French food on the nightly menu. The interiors in Home In Bloom are matched only by the over-the-top flower displays, a feast for the eyes on every page. For the mom who loves the (vintage!) hunt, a copy of Old Brand New will bring mix-and-match old/new interiors into sharp focus.
For the lady with Cotswolds cottage fantasies, wrap up a copy of The Farm Table from dishy British chef Julius Roberts (think Nancy Myer’s The Holiday, in cookbook form). My Wanderlust is fed by The Monocle Book of Italy, full of iconic Italian imagery, fueling fantasies of future Amalfi trips. Ladies with a bend toward grow-your-own will find years of inspiration inside The Fragrant Flower Garden's lush floral spreads.
Finally, a shameless plug for my three most beloved books: Every Day is Saturday for breezy spring/summer dinners and inspiring weekend feasts; The Newlywed Cookbook, which hits all the classics (think: roast chicken dinners, the best brownies and the perfect, stackable-chocolate cake) and for the busy flavor-loving head-of-household: Instant Family Meals which puts flavors from all over the world front-and-center on your family plate—fast. All of my books are jam-packed with seasonal recipes and strategies—and I’d be chuffed for them to belong to the mothers you love.
GIFT THE UNEXPECTED:
Now, you can gift something even more personal from me—an intimate ONE-ON-ONE VIDEO SESSION (Q+A STYLE) or LIVE COOKING CLASS with me. One-on-One sessions are available once a week throughout the Spring (and on hiatus this summer). They can be about any topic of my guest’s choosing—from adapting your cooking for a special diet to planning a forthcoming dinner party or special family event. Sign up here (see the gift box for how to purchase them as a gift). Cooking classes will be held monthly, and new subjects will be announced here and here.
GIVE BACK GIFTS:
One of my favorite organizations, EVERY MOTHER COUNTS (founded by Christy Turlington Burns) has been working with cult brand Clare V on an easy-wear casual collection like this charming Clare V X Every Mother Counts Sweatshirt (or t-shirt, or hat!)—Maman ‘Je T’aime! Every Mother Counts supports more than 1.5 million women, families, and healthcare workers across the globe to achieve better birth and maternal care for all.
FEED Foundation remains a deeply impactful organization that I’ve worked with for over a decade. Their Feed Projects XL Market Tote is my spring-season go-to for picnics, market shopping, and overnight stays. For work, I reach for their sturdy and stylish Feed Projects Work Bag in Army Green. Each one sold helps to provide ten essential school meals for kids in need.
