CATSKILL RESTAURANT GUIDE
The best places to eat and drink in Kingston, NY the Lower Catskills and the Hudson Valley: From date-night to pizza night, family friendly to all-out glam, this sprawling region has it all.
Hi there!
For my latest travel post, I’m sending you a restaurant guide from my own backyard, a region known as the Hudson Valley that spans about 80 miles North of New York City right up into the Catskill mountains (From Kerhonkson to Kingston and as far northwest as Bovina, NY). For a good reason, the Catskills and the Hudson Valley are experiencing their second coming as major travel destinations (the initial glory days started in the early 1800s, and this area remained a hot ticket until about the early 1960s). You’ll find hundreds of acres of forest, farmland, mountains, waterfalls, sprawling outdoor art exhibits, crystal clear lakes, and oodles of creative people, many of whom have lent their considerable talents to the local restaurant/bar/resort scene.
I’m biased; I’ve called this area home for over nine years, and sure, several local restaurant owners happen to be friends. But I’ve also done a few laps around the globe, and still, there’s nowhere I find more satisfying to the senses than the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. It’s the best of Massachusetts, Vermont, and New York City swirled into one, with access to skiing, swimming, and urban life, plus the chillax family pizza nights under the stars that keep you coming back for more.
At least once a week, I get a DM or a note from a friend or former colleague heading north from NYC for a weekend stay or an event like Field + Supply (happening this weekend in Kingston, NY), asking me where to eat while they’re here. Finally, I’m putting my list in one place for you!
